Image Technology and the Phantasm Producing

The images captured through photography are a form of simulation of the real world. This is considered a simulation because, apart from its other-dimensional characteristics, reality, when viewed solely from a visual perspective, is also represented in binary through the optical signals captured by photography and the signals released when displayed. This process of encoding and decoding dilutes the density of reality and results in a loss of information, thereby producing an illusion on the side of reality (rather than its opposite). This illusion, in turn, sparks the imagination regarding other dimensions.
In the exhibition “The Via Combusta,” participating artists either use photography as a tool to produce illusions or as a means to discuss these illusions. In this discussion, we have invited curator Yining He as the moderator, with science fiction writer Tang Fei as a guest, alongside participating artists Julian Quintanilla Nobell and Wang Ninghui, as well as curators Gan Yingying and Zhou Yichen, to discuss the photographic works in the exhibition and other forms that produce illusions.

通过摄影所捕捉的图像,是一种对于现实世界的模拟,说是模拟,是因为现实除了具备其他维度的 特性,且如果仅论视觉维度,摄影所捕捉到的光学信号以及最后展示时所释放的信号也是二进制式 的,这种编码和解码的过程是对现实密度的稀释和信息的丢失,因此它在现实的侧面(而非对立 面)生产了一种幻象,这个幻象又同时引发了对于其他维度的想象。
在“燃烧之路”展览中,参展艺术家在作品中或是将摄影作为一种生产幻象的工具,或是作为讨论幻 象的工具,在这一次对谈中,我们邀请了策展人何伊宁作为主持人,科幻作家糖匪作为嘉宾,与参 展艺术家尤里安·金塔纳斯·诺⻉尔和王凝慧,以及策展人甘莹莹、周一辰一起讨论展览中摄影作品 以及其他生产幻觉的形式。
